The origin of the E-cigarette

Where does the e-cigarette actually come from? And how long have e-cigarettes been around? On this page we find out the origin of the e-cigarette and where we are currently in the timeline.

The origin is cancer

Let us not wipe it around; The reason that e-cigarettes are conceived is to offer smokers an alternative to dangerous tobacco. Hon Lik is the inventor of the e-cigarette in 2003, to help his father stop smoking cigarettes. He was already under treatment for cancer at the time, and did not survive. It gave Hon Lik and other companies the inspiration to further develop this product.

Made in China

The e-cigarette was not only invented in China, they have also further developed this product, resulting in many Chinese vaping product providers. International companies also usually have their devices made here. E-liquids are increasingly coming from Europe, also because of the strict rules regarding ingredients.

Tobacco competitor

Philips Morris wanted to take over the patent from Hon Lik at an early stage. Fortunately this did not happen, otherwise we might never have heard of this invention again. Tobacco manufacturers would only start using these products much later, and also develop other tobacco products such as heating tobacco instead of burning it. They are also looking for new markets in the world to sell polluting cigarettes.

More variation in e-cigarettes

The first cig-a-likes were conceived of the 2003 prototype, which looked a lot like cigarettes. Then came the e-Go models with a rechargeable battery and tanks that you can refill yourself. After these Mouth to Lung devices came the Direct to Lung dampers, which work on the basis of low resistance and produce a lot of vapor. Mods and boxmods are currently the most popular, there are also many hobbyists who develop hardware and software for the further development of e-cigarettes.

The first e-cigarette was conceived as a more responsible version of the tobacco cigarette, even now ex-smokers still account for the majority of the market.
